Pre-requisites: This is an introductory level course. There are no pre-requisites though it is strongly recommended that students review anatomy of the connective tissue system and the major diaphragms. Non-professionals please note that we will not be reviewing anatomy comprehensively during this course so reviewing the anatomy in advance is strongly recommended.
Course Description: This 2-day introductory Myofascial Release course offers a clear, experiential overview of soft tissue myofascial release principles, with a focused exploration of diaphragm-related techniques. Participants will learn foundational concepts of fascia, myofascial dysfunction, and gentle hands-on approaches designed to reduce tissue restriction, support mobility, and enhance drainage and whole-body function. Special attention will be given to the major diaphragms of the body including the respiratory diaphragm and pelvic diaphragm, highlighting their role in posture, breathing, and nervous system regulation. Designed for healthcare professionals—including physical therapists, occupational therapists, and massage therapists—as well as interested non-professionals, this course emphasizes safe, respectful touch, embodied awareness, and practical techniques that can be integrated into both clinical practice and personal wellness contexts.
Learning Outcomes: By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
-
Describe the basic structure and function of the myofascial system and explain how myofascial restrictions can influence movement, posture, and overall function.
-
Demonstrate foundational principles of soft tissue myofascial release, including the use of gentle, non-forceful touch and an awareness of tissue response.
-
Identify the anatomy and functional role of the respiratory diaphragm and related major diaphragms in the body.
-
Apply introductory, safe diaphragm-focused myofascial techniques to support breathing, mobility, and relaxation within appropriate scope of practice.
-
Integrate myofascial release concepts into clinical practice, self-care, or wellness contexts while recognizing contraindications, professional boundaries, and ethical considerations.
