Course Description:
Abdominal pain, cramping, heartburn, indigestion, irritable bowel syndrome, colitis, and Crohn’s disease are common digestive issues affecting many people today. Integrative Manual Therapy for the Gastrointestinal Tract provides effective support for these conditions. In this course, practitioners will learn straightforward techniques to relieve muscle spasms and fascial tension around the GI organs, enhance circulation to and from the gut, and possibly improve nutrient absorption and toxin elimination. Pain and inflammation affecting mobility and function will be addressed. The course includes extensive hands-on lab time, allowing practitioners to refine their clinical skills. These techniques are applicable to all patient populations and can help reduce a variety of GI symptoms, including abdominal discomfort, cramping, hemorrhoids, bowel irregularities, indigestion, acid reflux, colic in infants, and more.
Learning Outcomes:
- Participants will have a functional understanding of the GI system and the location of key components.
- Participants will demonstrate an understanding of visceral mobilization in relationship to spinal mobility.
- Participants will perform techniques to increase the mobility of ‘soft joints’.
- Participants will execute visceral mobilization techniques to attain increased intra-visceral space and pressure.
- Participants will perform before and after postural assessments to determine the effectiveness of the techniques in increasing range of motion and static posture.
- Participants will demonstrate their ability to perform the various techniques to effectively put them in practice following the class.
