Course Description:
Integrative Manual Therapy: Advanced Strain and Counterstrain (ASCS) is an introductory level course for treating the Autonomic Nervous System and Related Disorders. It focuses on the treatment of tissues and structures innervated by the autonomic nervous system. Muscle spasm induced by stress, visceral and circulatory problems and central nervous system dysfunction are positively impacted by the ASCS techniques. Arterial and venous blood flow improve. Muscles of organs and eyes and speech and swallowing function more efficiently. Tendon Release Therapy for tendon tension, lesions and scars is presented to enhance musculoskeletal mobility. Disc Therapy for effective improvement of discogenic problems is also covered in this class.
ASCS was developed by Sharon Weiselfish-Giammatteo, PhD, PT, IMT,C & Tom Giammatteo, DC, PT, IMT,C and is based on the approach founded by Dr. Lawrence Jones’ Strain and Counterstrain Technique. ASCS can be used safely for orthopedic and sports medicine, chronic pain, pediatric, cardiopulmonary, neurologic and many other patient populations to improve mobility and function by addressing tension caused by the autonomic nervous system.
Learning Outcomes:
- Basic understanding of the Integrative Systems Approach in relationship to smooth muscle.
- Demonstrate the ability to evaluate static and dynamic posture while highlighting compensatory patterns.
- Experience and practice Advanced Strain and Counterstrain Technique to facilitate correction of biomechanical dysfunction and normalization of joint mobility and muscle tone for improved structural integrity and motor function.
- Indicate an understanding of the smooth muscle system.
- Develop effective treatment plans incorporating the Advanced Strain and Counterstrain techniques for smooth muscle.
- Demonstrate changes in ROM and posture using Advanced Strain and Counterstrain techniques.
